Have you ever noticed something kind of funny?

When we’re buying something big—like a new couch—we become researchers. We measure the space, compare prices, read reviews, and make sure it’s exactly what we want before we spend the money.

But somehow, that same thoughtfulness disappears when it comes to the little things:

“It’s just a candle.”

“I could use another mug.”

“That basket is so cute.”

“It’s only a lip balm.”

Into the cart they go!

The interesting part is that clutter usually doesn’t happen because of one expensive purchase. It happens because of dozens—sometimes hundreds—of tiny purchases that don’t seem like a big deal in the moment.

Then, one day, we’re opening a drawer that barely closes or a cabinet packed with things we forgot we even owned, wondering, how did all this get here?

I’ve found that one simple question can make a huge difference: Do I already have something that does the same job?

Not because you should never buy anything new. We all deserve to enjoy beautiful things. But taking that small pause before adding another item to the cart helps us become more intentional with what we bring into our homes.

Those tiny decisions add up. They create less clutter, less waste, and more space for the things you truly love. Because in the end, it’s usually not the big purchases that shape our homes. It’s the little choices we make every single day.
